The Dark Side of Unleashing

by Osmara on September 6, 2012

Unleashing: The precise spot where you break the mold by taking unprecedented action… Never-before-experienced action.

Your Unleashing is two-fold:

1) You’re freeing yourself from your invisible cages, self-created sh*tstorms, and self-imposed limitations/illusions.

2) You’re allowing your inherent, dormant yet potent brilliance to shine through – unleashing it out into the world.

The minute you plunge into the unknown and begin moving towards that unprecedented territory, the sh*tstorms will appear. They must – there’s no other way… This, my friends, is the dark side of Unleashing – when you make that bold declaration and begin moving in the direction of your highest becoming you will be faced with your Dark Side. Your Dark Side is that part of you you’ve secretly been despising and judging. It’s that murky, icky, black hole of a place within you where all your regrets, shame, guilt, and self-loathing reside – bubbling underneath the surface. And let’s be clear about this: we all have a Dark Side.

Society has programmed us to try to cover up this Dark Side with accolades, money, material possessions, status symbols, nice job titles, a pretty face, a flawless body – you name it… Society has programmed us to be numb, desensitized and blind to our Dark Side. We avoid it at all costs – we repress it with all our might… And the pressure just keeps building and building. Your Dark Side is that piece of you that you don’t want to own, that you don’t wish to see… so like a good little monster it cowers and awaits the perfect moment to erupt in your face in the form of sabotage.

Your Unleashing cannot come to pass without the emergence of your Dark Side – in order for you to shed your skin(s) and become who you were born to be you must look your Dark Side in the eye for you cannot release what you’re not aware of. When you commit to your Unleashing you open the floodgates for anything and everything that’s unlike what you desire to surface so it can be healed and released. (Healing, by the way means ‘to make whole again.’)

So remember, when sh*tstorms strike and you are faced with your own demons – don’t look away. Don’t run away. Don’t numb out. Instead try these three powerful steps to ensure you surf victoriously through the Dark Side of your Unleashing:

1- Sit with it : Whatever ‘icky’ emotions arise, be with them… Be present to them. Sit in silence with them. Resist your knee-jerk reaction to run away from them. Feel the loneliness, feel the sadness, feel the pain, feel the fear, feel the anger. While you’re feeling these emotions, don’t forget to breathe deeply.

2- Question it : Get in the habit of asking yourself “What else is possible?” “What’s right about this that I’m not seeing?” “What can I learn about myself from this?” The more you question the purpose of your Dark Side, the more your eyes will open to the answer.

3- Remember the ‘Illusion of Foreverizing’ : Nothing lasts forever. In the midst of our sh*tstorms we can get sucked into this illusion that things are permanent or unchangeable… Remind yourself that change and transformation is always possible.

Here’s something I shared on Facebook yesterday:

Truth: Shit happens. There are painful days, anxiety-ridden days, days of disappointment, days when you just want to throw in the towel… days when life seems dreary and scary… Keep going. Remember who you are and WHY you are here. Don’t fall into the trap and “foreverize” those days. The sh*tstorms WILL pass – and when they do it will be like the airplane that penetrates the thick gray clouds as it ascends higher and higher into the atmosphere… Once you pierce the gray you’ll be reminded that what’s waiting on the other side is nothin’ but sunshine and blue skies
